Moving on a Budget: Here Are Some Great Tips on How to Get Free Boxes
Moving is already stressful enough and the last thing you want is to have to worry about the actual way in which your belongings will be transported to their destination – as in the boxes in which you will put everything. And yes, you will need a lot of them – even if you don’t feel like you have a lot of things to pack. Of course, you can ask your moving company to provide you with boxes, as many of the removals services actually do offer boxes for sale. However, if you are running on a short budget with the entire “removals operation”, you will want to save as much money as possible – including on the boxes you use for the relocation. How do you do it, then? How do you minimize the costs of the containers in which you pack your belongings for the big move? Can you get free boxes and if yes, where can you do this? Here are some things to keep in mind: •    Go to the local supermarket or to the local fast foods. Most likely, they have a lot of boxes they want to get rid of and they will happily give them to you at absolutely no price at all. Some of these boxes are really sturdy, so you don’t have to worry about the fact that they might crack under the weight of your belongings. Simply show up when you know your local supermarket is not very busy and ask them nicely if they can provide you with some boxes on various sizes. •    Ask your friends and workmates. Some of them may have moved recently and they may still keep around their removals boxes so it really doesn’t cost anything to ask around. Some of them may even have special boxes for you to hang your clothes in and some of them may be able to help you with the stuffing as well. Make sure you return these things to them though and make sure you make a list of who lend you what so that you know whom to return the boxes to. •    Ask on the social media. Facebook and Twitter connect you with a lot of people – including friends of your friends. Ask people to share your message across Facebook and you will most likely get at least a couple of offers. •    Craigslist and other similar sites. If you don’t find enough boxes for your belongings by asking in supermarkets and by asking your friends, you can always post a request on Craigslist or a similar site. Your post may be seen by someone who actually wants to get rid of some of his/her boxes so, again, it doesn’t cost anything to ask. •    If you think you will need special boxes (such as those mentioned above, for example), buy them from your moving company. However, you don’t need to buy all of your boxes from the company. You can combine the ones you have collected for free with some of those paid ones so that you have enough of them to move your stuff in. •    Also, don’t forget to ask your removals service if they don’t provide packing services too – it is quite likely that the boxes will be included in the price there. Keep in mind that not all companies work the same and that you should ask beforehand instead of relying on a last-minute resort.
